Website and Newsletter

Firstly, we'd like to thank the many people who have been most enthusiastic in making the Chinese Discussion Forum a success and have offered their assistance and time in supporting the Chinese community! As some of you may have seen, the newsletters have begun to change as well as the construction of a new Chinese Discussion Forum website:
www.chineseforum.org.za.

Other websites that have already been registered are:
www.chineseinsouthafrica.co.za and www.southafricanchinese.co.za

Our vision is to use the web to reach the entire Chinese community of South Africa. We will inform the Chinese community of various issues, events, career opportunities and other useful information regarding the Chinese people. On the new web site, we will store past archives of newsletters, issues and documents (e.g. various BEE related documents and letters).

Our aim is to also have a database of various Chinese businesses' so that anyone searching the web looking for anything Chinese i.e. restaurants, groceries etc... will be able to find them on the website.

If anyone has any other ideas of what they would like to see on the website, please let us know at: info@chineseforum.org.za Please let us know, as this is YOUR website! It does not belong to any specific organisation or political party! It is for YOU, the people of the Chinese community!

Thanks must be made to the following people for the help and assistance with the website. Each one of these people has shown their support and passion for the enrichment of the Chinese community as a whole and have dedicated their time and effort to ensure its success:

  • Debbi Lee Wong (Internet Solutions) - for the registration and sponsorship of the www.chineseforum.org.za domain.
  • Michael Wong - for the technical support and advice for the website.
  • Angeline T For Ming (JD Internet Consulting) - for the initial sponsorship of the development and hosting of the website!

Angeline is extremely passionate about assisting the Chinese community as a whole and also registered the other two domains
(Chinese in South Africa and South African Chinese). She will be assisting to web market the website so that searches about the Chinese people in South Africa  will be pointed to our website.

Make a pledge:

Pledge towards the future of our children & well being of our elders

The Chinese Association of South Africa recognizes the important role which the South African Chinese Sports Association plays in encouraging the youth of the community to participate and associate with one another during the Annual Easter Tournament.

The organization and major funding of this event is arranged by SACSA. SACSA have through the years secured sponsorship from the Republic of China via the Taipei Liaison Office. It must be accepted that this sponsorship has certain conditions and funds are also limited.

During the 2004 Tournament the Northern Gauteng Chinese Sports Association had a shortfall and with the increase in costs and depreciating Rand , this shortfall will increase.

It is therefore imperative that a fund be started to ensure that the Annual Easter Tournament will not stop because of a lack of funding/ sponsorship. The target for this fundraising drive is to raise at least R1,5m for a specific purpose of funding future tournaments if necessary.

It has also come to CASA's attention that a growing number of our elderly are struggling to afford medical treatment and medication. To try and get proper medical attention they are attending state hospitals where they need to wait for hours for treatment. After consulting with Hong Ning Old Age Home, it has been decided that if funding was available then private doctors would be approached to consult once or twice a week at the Home. Hong Ning does not have funds for this type of project and therefore CASA is proposing that a joint fundraising effort be started to raise R1m for this project. The total funds required is R2,5m which will be invested in trust account and only the interest will be used to fund the projects. SACSA will control 1,5m of the capital and Hong Ning R1m of the capital.

These funds will be raised by convincing community members to take units of R5,000.00. A target of at least R2,5m is to be raised throughout South Africa using 500 units. Any excess of R2,5m will be divided 50/50 between the two projects. The regional associations affiliated to CASA & SACSA, together with Hong Ning, will be responsible for organizing the distribution of the units in South Africa . The success of this project requires the participation of the whole community. No receipts will be issued. However, pre-numbered certificates indication the amounts pledged and paid will be issued to participating community members.
